The American P-40 Warhawk fighter is one of the iconic types of World War II. The P-40E version was the first large-scale production version with the V-1710 F-series engine. In US Army colours, the fighter fought mostly on the Chinese, Indian, and Pacific battlefields. It was delivered to the Allies as the Kittyhawk Mk.IA. One of the very specific battlefields where this aircraft was deployed was the Aleutian Islands. There, American P-40Es and Canadian Kittyhawks had to contend not only with the Japanese enemy, but also with the unpredictable weather and natural conditions of the Aleutian Islands. Therefore, the P-40s were modified on this battlefield. The American ones were fitted with sealed exhausts and covered machine gun barrels, and the Canadian ones were fitted with a special antenna system.
