Vought Vindicator became one of the first monoplanes used by US Navy and Marines. US machines participated in Battle of Midway. Vindicators were also used by British Royal Navy (Chesapeake Mk.I) and Aéronavale - French Navy.  French machines were designated V-156F and were rather different compared to US machines. The wings of the French machines featured speed brakes that were not present on the US production machines. All the equipment and armament were of French provenience. The bomb swing arm was not mounted and the machines carried wing mounted bomb racks. V-156Fs were deployed to Escadrille AB-1 and AB-3.  Escadrille AB-1 fought against advancing Wermacht and attacked bridges on Oise river. Escadrille AB-3 fought against Italians in the Southern France.
